'Kerala People’s Front to be launched soon'

KOTTAYAM: In a bid to create a greater socio- political space for the backward communities in Kerala, a consortium of 50 organisations has announced the decision to launch the Kerala People’s Front(KPF) here on Monday. The launch of KPF will be held another day, SNDP Yogam General Secretary, Vellappally Natesan said.
All the political parties, communal parties and caste forces have been overlooking the interests of the backward communities including the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe, Natesan said.
Despite the backward communities constituting 40 per cent of the population, they have been alienated from the society and politics, he said.
There is not even one member belonging to the  backward community in either the Central Planning Board or the State Planning Board, to represent the interest of the community, he said. In Vellappally’s opinion, this was because the backward communities were disorganised. The aim of the new outfit is to organise the backward communities and help them get their due.
According to former SNDP president C K Vidyasagar, the five-point agenda of the new outfit would be to help the community to own land, share power, get employment, become prosperous, and gain quality education.
All these has been denied by the mainline political parties, KPMS president T V Balu,  said.
. Special Education Zones should be created in backward areas on the lines of Special Economic Zones, they said. According to them, religion is breaching all boundaries to capture the reins of power and political parties are dancing to their tunes, in the state.
The formation of KPF was a small step to counter this, V K Asokan, treasurer of the KPF and former president of SNDP Thrissur unit, said.
The announcement of the KPF was the continuation of the meeting held in Alappuzha on February 28, Vidyasagar said.
