Police seek witnesses to arrest M.M. Mani

IDUKKI: The police team is on a search for witnesses in order to arrest CPI (M)’s Idukki District Secretary M.M. Mani in connection with his controversial speech on party-sponsored murders. The team is pursuing those people who were made witnesses at first in the case relating to murder of Anchery Baby, Mullanchira Mathai and Muttukad Nanappan.

The chief evidence against Mani which police filed before Thodupuzha First Class Magistrate Court is the Video CD containing Mani’s controversial speech. The FIR also includes excerpts of his speech in which he affirmed that CPI (M) had sponsored murders. But the obstacle before police is that court will not consider public speeches as confessions to crime.

The police are trying to collect old case diaries from DySP offices or SP offices. Those witnesses who later changed their statements are also under scanner. Those rebels who left CPI (M) will also be questioned.
